Peripheral Envision

Irvine Fine Arts Center
Irvine, CA
1988

Built for the Irvine Fine Arts Center, this work made use of the entire room as the structure of the sculpture, utilizing what was otherwise an oddly-proportioned set of walls.

The stairwell created a sense of movement toward a hidden place beneath the floor.

Temporary installation. Wood, dirt, and plexiglas.

Dimensions:
8′ H x 11′ W x 16′ D

Stairs descend under ground, ladder ascends to top of wall.
Exterior with platform covered with dirt, structure exterior, and ladder reaching upwards.
Detail: top of ladder and wall at clerestory windows.
